To Do Tuesday 11-23-21 - Thanksgiving Week

It's To Do Tuesday for the week of Thanksgiving (for those of us who celebrate Thanksgiving). Today I prepared for Thursday with roll baking and cookie dough making (see our Thanksgiving menu below). Our kids and grandkids will all gather here on Thanksgiving. What are your plans for the holiday? Share in the comments below!

SAHRR quilt ready to be quilted, and Indian Corn in the background waiting for sandwiching
Here were my plans last week:
✅1. Bind DashAlong and post about it - Finished it, photographed it, washed it, and cuddled under it, but haven't posted about it yet!
2. Quilt and bind SAHRR quilt - No, but it is ready to quilt
3. Sandwich Indian Corn, quilt, and bind and post about it. I'd like to have it on the sofa for Thanksgiving! - No, but I still intend to finish it by the time everyone gets here!

I finished Autumn Jubilee aka "Oklahoma Sunset" mounted in our entry hall - blog post is right here

RBD Challenge quilt

I got squirreled by my own self this week! I had planned to hand quilt my RBD (Riley Blake Designs) block challenge quilt but after doing a few blocks, the strain on my hands was too much, even with one of those nice plastic snap frames. I ripped out stitches then threw it on the quilting frame where each block got its own unique quilting. It was good practice! I'm noticing some improvement in my straight stitching, which is very encouraging. The binding is cut but not yet sewn together - that might happen this weekend.

Here is my "aim for" list:
1. Sandwich, quilt, and bind Indian Corn.
2. Quilt and bind SAHRR quilt.
3. Bind RBD block challenge quilt.
4. Post about my quilts.
5. TV time slow stitching

Here is our menu for Thanksgiving:

Charcuterie Board
Roasted Turkey Breast
Apple Cranberry Sauce and Jellied Cranberry Sauce
Mashed Potatoes and Dressing and Gravy
Green Bean Casserole
Sweet Potato Rolls
Toffee Pumpkin Cream Pie
Brown Sugar Pecan Pie
Pumpkin Snickerdoodles

Our son and DIL and three oldest grands (ages 22, 20, and 18) will have an early Thanksgiving with her brother in Austin then drive here on Thanksgiving and spend one night before heading back to their home north of Houston. Our daughter and the "Littles" (ages 5 and 2) who live about 50 miles from us will come for the day. We are sad for our daughter as she navigates a divorce during the holiday season, but on a positive note she is doing better and most days dreams of a happier future. She is strong, she is a wonderful mother - the kids are her priority - and she is determined to get through this as amicably as possible. We are so proud of her!

Sweet Potato Rolls - recipe is Amish Potato Rolls from King Arthur Baking.
I tweaked it by using sweet instead of russet potatoes and honey instead of sugar

  1. Our daughter has also worked through a divorce last year. She has come through stronger and better than before. Its hard to see your child hurting but with your support, she'll make it. Have a blessed peaceful Thanksgiving with your family.

    1. Sorry to hear about your daughter Gretchen. Divorce is not fun, but sometimes it ends up being a blessing being away from negative relationships. I hope only the best for her.

  2. Your Thanksgiving menu sounds wonderful, Linda! So glad you get to have your whole family there! Our meal will be a little simpler since we're headed up to visit our son in Nebraska. In fact, I've already roasted the turkey and it's packaged up and in the freezer. When we're there on Thursday, I'll make a few sides. Oklahoma Sunset is gorgeous on your wall and a perfect decoration for the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. Happy Thanksgiving! My adult kids and their families are all coming over for Thanksgiving. I do the turkey, dressing, and cranberry relish. The kids fill in with their favorite traditional sides and desserts. With less cooking for me, I do have time to sew!

  7. Like you I was trying to get my quilt finished by T-Day but I just kinda fizzled--but it's not for decor at least. I just gave myself a deadline. That's a yummy menu! Just hubs and I and our 4 kids, son-in-law and two grandkids....a roaring fire, some football, maybe a puzzle and I might put up the tree at night. Or I might just veg and the tree can wait! Happy Thanksgiving!

  8. It will be wonderful to celebrate with all your family! We are with our son. Turkey is on the menu. Mashed potatoes, dressing(stuffing) and gravy. Our traditional family cranberry salad and also pumpkin pie. Just the three of us. I get the divorce hurt! Both our kids are currently divorced. It is hard to see your kids hurting. This has been a tough 2o months to be “single”.

  9. Hi Linda, my those rolls look so delicious. I love to see those quilts on your new machine. You are doing fantastic with the quilting. Autumn Jubilee looks awesome and that will be a perfect Thanksgiving menu. Mouth watering. Kudos to your daughter for hanging on through difficult times...she's got great backup with you.

  10. Homemade rolls! Yum. Haven't tried any in years. Sounds like you will enjoy a happy T Day with family. I'm planning an apple cake with caramel sauce for my contribution along with a veggie tray. I'm just happy we can get together in person. My grands range from 11 to 5 so we'll have to be careful although they have all gotten their first shots.... At least we can be together.

  11. I envy your role baking. I never have good luck with rolls. This year I bought some, but I am going to try and overnight Artisanal pumpkin bread to see how that works out. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t, and I will have a back up. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your lovely family

  12. Hum, maybe we need to stop by for table scraps on Thursday - LOL. I am happy to hear that your daughter is getting her life in order. She will be happier when all is completed - I have been there before and it made me a stronger and highly independent woman. I have no regrets for my past. She will rise above all and excel! Have a great time with your family! Hugs

  13. Hi Linda! Gosh, Autumn Jubilee looks FABULOUS hanging in your entryway. I just LOVE all those colors and fabrics you chose. A perfect representation of Fall. I'm pulling for you to get your Indian Corn quilt all finish and on the sofa on Thursday's visitors. {{Hugs}} Enjoy the time with your family. It's so wonderful that you can gather together and break bread. I'll add your daughter to my prayers. ~smile~ Roseanne

  14. Looks like you have a very busy week and a yummy dinner to serve. We drove down from Maine Monday, shopped today and I started cooking. I do it over 3 days - one for each attendee this year! Many years we have had a lot, but this year it suits me just fine to be few....
