To Do Tuesday 05-24-22

Welcome to To Do Tuesday for this 22nd day of May! I don't know about you, but my May is flying by. We have had "record heat" for May that finally got a break last Friday night in the form of a cool front, when the temperature dropped from 82 to 62 in about 30 minutes. These past few days have been more May-like - what a relief!

A house we loved, but it wasn't meant to be!

We have been distracted for the past month or so by flirting with the idea of selling our house. The market is crazy good in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and has extended to include our area 60 miles north of Dallas. Houses in our little town are selling pretty quickly, and two houses on our neighborhood have commanded surprisingly good prices. We have been looking and had our eye on one house in particular in a larger town about 15 miles west of us (and 15 miles closer to our daughter!) We submitted a verbal contingency offer on Friday, but the sellers accepted another offer after showings over the weekend. We are disappointed but philosophical and will decide soon whether or not to put our house on the market.

I've been battling a head cold since Monday, and finally my sore throat turned into laryngitis, which has been quite interesting. Add that to house distractions, and no sewing was done. I did enjoy a few brief moments picking out fabric for the final two RBD blocks

So here were the goals for last week:
✅1. Drive to meet our daughter and babysit little Everett while she has lunch with a friend on Wednesday - Our daughter had a lovely lunch while we took Ev to Whataburger - we had a great time!
✅2. Doctor appointments Tuesday and Thursday - Done, plus house hunting
❌3. Do as much sewing as I can squeeze in. I won't be able to wear my contacts starting Friday in order to prep for a cataract evaluation the following Friday. I can wear my glasses but they are 5 years old and not very effective. Nope.

Goals for the coming week:
1. RBD blocks
2. Cataract consultation on Friday
3. Get started on Pieces in the Garden row #4
4. Make a decision on the Wedding Quilt - I may change the pattern!

  1. It has been record hot here in CA as well. Can't wait for it to cool down again. I am sure the right house will come along and it would all work out then. Hope you are feeling better soon.
BTW, I am linking up. It not directly quilting related, but a creativity related post. I hope that is all right. Please let me know if it not. Thanks so much for hosting :)

  2. That is too bad about the new house - hopefully you'll find the really perfect one right around the corner! Houses are selling like that here, too. The prices are crazy! Good luck with your cataract consultation. I'll most likely be on that path in the fall. Hope you're able to get a little sewing in after all that!

  3. I'm glad the weather has cooled a bit for you. House hunting is exciting, though! Hope you are feeling better soon, and the consult goes well on Friday.

  4. Glad the weather shifted. Good luck with the house decisions…. I love looking at houses, but moving scares the heck out of me. Hope you get over the cold soon…and good luck with the cataract consult!

  5. Didn’t you all just move a couple of years ago? I am one who HATES moving, so I plan to stay where I am. Instead of moving I tend to build on additions, install skylights, and otherwise change things up. That said, that is a nice looking house. The market is definitely on fire. People are bidding against each other running the price up much higher than the asking price in order to get homes. For whatever reason, I cannot seem to leave comments on your blog because it claims when I give my web address that my link is invalid, so I’ll let you know that it’s me, Pattie, from Olla-Podrida.

  6. All the best with house decisions. It is a bit unsettling when you start to think house selling and buying. Hope you are feeling better soon. I see we now need 17 blocks for the RBC, but I don't really want to do their setting as a lot more sewing. Thinking of something simpler!

  9. Our weather has been very hot here too, but yesterday and today we've had a few showers and it helped cool us down some. That's a relief. I'm sorry about the new house, but I'm sure there is a better one for you! I understand about the contacts. I would just be blind as a bat! I have a cataract on my left eye, my doc is rechecking in July. Besides being very old, my glasses were fitted for my contact lens rx because I can't go without them two weeks just for an eyeglass exam!!

  11. I understand how frustating it was, but you know what has to be will be, don't be anxious.
Hope everything go well during your appointment next Friday.

  12. Hi Linda! I can understand why selling and moving closer to your littles is very enticing, especially with the market being so hot right now. We've been due for a crash and readjustment and you never know when it will hit! I hope the consult goes well with the eye doctor. Sewing and cataracts do not play well together. I hope you are able to get in soon and get that surgery behind you. Then you'll have the summer to enjoy and a potential move to plan. {{Hugs}} a bunch and thanks so much for the linky party! ~smile~ Roseanne

  13. My son had to put in 5 or 6 different offers before one was finally accepted. The market is crazy! We've had enough of moving around but back in the day, I always had to remind myself "the right one will happen!" Hard to watch a good one get away, I know.

  14. First off - hope you are feeling better. And the house situation - that's a beauty - the one you posted..too bad about that. Here in California it's getting unbelievable. A Simple 3 bedroom 2 bath house is renting for $3,000 and the prices of houses have risen so high. When we sold our house on an acre 10 years ago - i look at what its' worth now and could kick myself...It's over a million...damn... We decided when we sold we would just rent because we had this idea we would move every three years and try a different location...well that didn't happen and it sure won't happen now at least.

    1. I am feeling better, thanks Sandy! That's interesting about your housing situation in CA. We had briefly considered just selling our house and renting until we find something but there is no cheap rental, and most places want long-term contracts. That house we wanted had some things we wanted to change, but oh we loved the neighborhood. I'm keeping my eye out for another one!

  16. I sure understand about looking at new homes! I'm sure you will find your way! Yikes! I agree, cataracts and sewing do not go together! I was shocked how much easier sewing became after my cataract surgery some time ago! Take good care!

  17. Sorry you didn't get the house, hopefully you'll find something else or just decide to stay put. Hope the evaluation on your eyes went well and you can get that surgery scheduled soon.
