To Do Tuesday 3-29-22

Welcome to To Do Tuesday for the last week in March!  A big Thanks to all who linked up last week, and you are invited to click on the link below and add your post this week. We would love to visit your blog and see what you have going on! Click the busy couple above if you need more information.

My laptop bit the dust, and we found a good deal at Best Buy for a new one, so I have spent much time this past week transferring files and tweaking. I encountered an issue commenting on WordPress blogs which use Akismet, a spam filter which has been sending my comments to Spam folders. I emailed Akismet Support about this issue and thankfully received a reply stating they had made adjustments and that I shouldn't have any more problems. Hopefully this will fix the issue, but if you have a WordPress blog with Akismet, you might want to check your Spam folders for comments.

This project was not on my list but is done! This weekly Riley Blake Design block challenge pattern is Wind Blown by one of my favorite people - Amy Smart!

Last week I had two goals:
✅1. Wedding quilt - Yes I actually worked on it!
✅2. Help our daughter square away a few things at her house on Saturday - Yes! Dad took her to Lowe's and helped store attic stuff while I watched Little Everett and unpacked boxes.

Tomato plants are ready to be planted!

For this coming week:
1. Continue to work on Wedding Quilt
2. Get plants for front garden beds and work on back yard veggie and flower gardens
3. RBD challenge block
4. Pieces in the Garden blocks
5. Help daughter with a few odds and ends on Saturday

And now it's your turn to share your post (or Instagram photo!) by clicking the link below. After a few days have passed please come back and visit other blogs - you will be amazed by the inspiration you will find!

To Do Tuesday 3-22-22

Welcome to To Do Tuesday, where we join our friends to review our activities for the past week and share our plans for the coming week. If you are new to this event, Welcome! and click on the couple above for more details. For those of you who schedule your posts early, TDT opens each Tuesday at 12:01AM and closes the following Monday at 11:59PM. Join us below by clicking on the link button!

If only we could all have this much fun on moving days!

We had to take the dogs since we were gone all day!

My plans last week included helping our daughter move to another house, as her divorce was final last week. We took care of little Everett while his sister was in school. My husband went back and forth between the houses taking care of things like the dryer vent hose and setting up her internet, while I unloaded a few boxes of pantry items. Her new place is only 2-1/2 miles from the old house, so at least the move was quick!

Riley Blake Design blocks #7, #8, #9

My list from last week:
❌1. Wedding Quilt - Sadly, no
✅2. RBD quilt challenge blocks catch up = Done and pictured above
✅3. Help our daughter move on Friday - Done, although she continued to move boxes through the weekend as she packed them
✅4. SAHRR Parade Day 3-21-22 - Done and posted here

This coming week is simple:
1. Wedding quilt
2. Help our daughter square away a few things at her house on Saturday

We would love for you to join our linkup! Just click below to enter your post and let us visit you! You don't have to have a list like mine or be a quilter - you are all welcome to link up and share your week with us.

Below is the link to Marsha's Spot blog for you to visit. My website has issues with the Inlinkz link to her blog, so if you are having the same problems, just copy the link below and paste it into your browser.

2022 SAHRR Parade of Quilts

Today is the 2022 Stay At Home Round Robin SAHRR) parade of quilts. I joined SAHRR for the first time last year and was not about to miss the fun this year. You can find a great definition of the SAHRR on Roseanne and Sue's blog Homesewn By Us. The suggestions, or "prompts", for each round were given and demonstrated by a different blogger each week and included curved borders, diamonds, stars, signature blocks, appliqued hearts, and shoofly blocks. I tried to keep these additions small and sparse.

Original block

My original block was one called "Christmas Logs" and was one I had left over from the 2018 Moda Christmas sew-along. I had made errors on cutting this pattern, and it was bigger than the other blocks, so it became an orphan. I love this pattern and the fabrics are some of the first beloved fabrics I bought after I started quilting.

Joy from The Joyful Quilter suggested that the big white center space would be perfect for some applique or embroidery, so I used my Janome for some slightly rough embroidery stitches, as well as a place for the appliqued heart.

White border on left and green border on right

I was inspired by so many other bloggers on this journey, and Sherrie of Food For Thought inspired my last border. The yellow border she sewed on her SAHRR started me thinking about a colored border instead of the white I had, so I changed mine to green and like it so much better.

I have decided to leave the top as it is until closer to Christmas when I will decide whether to make it into a wall hanging, a table topper, or use it as part of a larger quilt. When that time comes I will do a follow-up post.

Great big Thank-Yous to GailAnja, Emily, Roseanne and Sue, Wendy, and Chris for your fun and challenging prompts and for all your hard work in pulling off another successful Stay At Home Round Robin. I'm already looking forward to next year!

I'm linking with Quilting Gail for this Parade of Quilts. Take a minute to go see

Pieces In The Garden - Friendship Stars

These Friendship Stars are the blocks for the second row of Pieces In The Garden, a sew-along hosted by Melva of Melva Loves Scraps. This sew-along is based on the story of Melva's maternal grandmother, Tressie Teegarden. Click on the button in my sidebar for more information. It isn't too late to join in!

After the challenge of the Bow row (see this post), the Friendship Stars were a breeze!

As you can see I am mainly using blues and yellows. These colors of the Ukrainian flag
honor the courage and strength of the Ukrainian people amid devastation.

Here are both rows. The Bow blocks were inspired by the hair bows worn by Tressie, and the Friendship Stars represent the childhood friendships she enjoyed. Melva's stories are quite entertaining, and even if you don't join in the sew-along, you will enjoy her posts.

Are you baking or cooking anything special for St Patrick's Day? Jocelyn, who is Canadian Needle Nana, had a delicious looking photo and recipe for Irish Soda Bread that I intend to try. Go check it out right here. When I was catering for my church I made Elise Bauer's Beef Irish Stew, and it was delicious. You can find her recipe right here. Do you have a favorite St Paddy's Day recipe?

One Friendship Star made for Pieces In The Garden

✅2. Start on second row for Pieces In The Garden - Done - plus I finished the bows row - posted here
3. Riley Blake Quilt Challenge blocks #7 and #8 - Nope
4. Think about a finish for the SAHRR block - no plans yet

My goals for the coming week:
1. Wedding Quilt
2. RBD quilt challenge blocks catch up
3. Help our daughter move on Friday

Monday This And That - Pieces In The Garden SAL

Here is the first row for Pieces In The Garden sew-along hosted by Melva of Melva Loves Scraps. This sew-along is based on the story of Melva's maternal grandmother, Tressie Teegarden. You may click on the button in my sidebar for information. I'm joining Days Filled With Joy for Monday This And That!

These little blocks finish at 4-1/2 inches square.

Each block consists flying geese and half square triangles.. Due to the challenge of a "scant 1/4 inch" sewing, not all of the flying geese units I made were usable, so I decided not to remake any flying geese units but to use the units that were OK. The following two photos show the flying geese that are not in the placement suggested by the pattern, due to my "creativity". I am very carefully not calling them mistakes, because although they do not make the exact pattern as the rest of the blocks, they still have bows!

There will be 12 rows of blocks at the end of the sew-along. The name "Teegarden" brings to mind vintage tea sets and cottage flower gardens, so I am using as many small flowered prints as possible. As for my color choices, in light of the tragic events in Ukraine, now seems a very appropriate time for blue and yellow. I have a LOT of blue and yellow scraps, so there will be more than enough for the entire quilt. My guess is that the scraps will multiply as I use them though - isn't that how it works?

The next row is Friendship Stars, and these are fast to make. I've made one and chosen fabrics for some of the sixteen 3-1/2 inch blocks. It's not too late to join in! You can read the sweet story and grab the pattern on Melva's blog right here.

I'm linking this post to Monday This And That on Days Filled With Joy.

New under counter lights helped brighten the counters.

I am happy to report that our kitchen cabinets were painted and the backsplash addition was completed, and we are very happy with the results. You can see the before and after right here, but I am showing you an update since my husband added some under counter lights!

Blocks for Riley Blake Design Block Challenge

Here were my goals last week:
✅1. Work on catching up with Riley Blake Design block challenge - DONE!
2. Make a few blocks for the Wedding Quilt - No progress
✔3. Catch up on SAHRR - Progress! I appliqued a heart in the center and only have one more round to do

SAHRR (Stay At Home Round Robin) with appliqued heart in the center.
It's a little lopsided, but that makes it perfect, right?

Last week I was feeling a bit harried and a little discouraged about not being "caught up" on my projects. Then dear Bonnie reminded me "ah Linda quilting isn't a race". Those were just the words I needed to hear, so thanks Bonnie! It helped me relax and enjoy just being in the sewing room, and now my joy is back!

Here is what I hope to accomplish in the coming week:
1. Do final round on SAHRR - a shoofly block
2. Work on Wedding Quilt
3. Do first row for Pieces in the Garden SAL (see sidebar for details)

Now it's your turn! Add your post to the link below, then head over to other blogs to see what great projects your friends have going on. We have several who link up later in the week, so be sure to check back in a few days for additions to the linky party.
