To Do Tuesday 11-15-22

Welcome to To Do Tuesday and oh my goodness what is happening with November - it is halfway over already - eeeek! You are welcome to join with us as we list our accomplishments for the past week and share playlists for the coming week. If you need more information, just click on the couple above.

Squirrel Alert! As usual I was inspired by your posts last week - full of interesting projects, tips, and pattern links - my big downfall! Carolyn at Quarter Inch Capers had this pretty pattern linked on her post, and it is now sitting in my pile of patterns I want to try. It is called Abstract Pinwheel Baby Quilt and the link is here.

Melva's quilt!

And Melva of Melva Loves Scraps completed this pretty quilt at a retreat, and I loved it so much I bought the pattern! It is Sticks and Stones from Missouri Quilt Company.

One more - Bonnie at Institches with Bonnie finished Pat Sloan's Traffic Jam, and I think it is so pretty, especially in the scraps she chose. It is a free pattern by Pat Sloan, but I opted to buy the updated version with more sizes.

Three days ago, this happened - see anything missing?
Yes, I sold my Necchi! I had issues with it, but I found out it was "user error" and took the steps to fix it. It was sewing perfectly fine, but I just missed my Janome, so I finally bit the bullet and listed it on Facebook Marketplace. After fending off two scam idiots, I was surprised to get an inquiry from a very nice gentleman who quilts. We connected, he came to the house and tried it out, and he bought it!

This will be sitting on my sewing table hopefully tomorrow!

I started researching Janomes months ago and finally decided yesterday on the Janome 4120 QDC. This is a big step up from my original Janome 3050 QDC that I purchased in 2010. I loved that little machine and never had one problem with it. In 2017 I gave that one to my granddaughter and bought a used Janome Horizon 7700 QCP, which I enjoyed until it began to have some bobbin issues. I sold it last April and bought the Necchi, and I've never really felt comfortable with it. I am beyond happy to be going back to Janome. I purchased it through Ken's Sewing Center after watching several of their videos, and I am sold on their family approach to customer service; plus their 4120 models were "deeply discounted", and I got mine for the price of a lesser model!

  1. Your sewing space is so beautiful, Linda! Lovely quilts, I really like your fabric layout of Melva's quilt! I have a tiny Janome machine that I use for quilting as well as sewing, and I love it! You get so used to with certain brands, I think it's the familiarity. I am the same way to paint brushes too.

  2. So exciting to get a new sewing machine, especially to go back to a brand and model you know you'll like! Glad you were able to sell the old one (in spite of the scammers) and get a good deal on the new one. Those are some fun patterns, too! I bet you're so excited to get the new machine set up and sewing!

I have seen Pat Sloan talking about her Traffic Jam pattern and sewing it on You Tube, Sticks and Stones is fun too. All the best with this week's plans. By the way that's what happens to me when I visit book blogs!!

  6. Even with the sewing machine missing, I love looking at your creative space. Am I curious? or just nosey? to look at all the little details in the background? (It's kind of like during 2020 when all news people were broadcasting from their homes; I found myself looking at all the things in their backgrounds.)

  7. You found some fun squirrels to play with. I'm fighting to not give into the quilt along that Yvonne of Quilting Jet Girl is planning, but I think it's a losing battle. I just like her pattern too much. Fingers crossed you get your new machine soon so you can play over the holiday. Happy stitching.

  15. Congratulations on your new machine, Linda! I can totally relate to the Facebook scammers. I have two sergers listed right now and I was immediately contacted by several fake buyers who lived in foreign countries (according to their profiles) saying that they wanted to pay with Zelle now and have a brother/friend/sister pick up the machine several days later. Apparently there's a scam where they send you fake emails that look like they came from Zelle saying you need to "upgrade your account" to accept the money, and the buyer says they will overpay you to cover the fee and you just need to refund the overage to them, so they get you to send them a REAL Zelle transfer to cover this extra amount... Only to discover afterwards that they never actually sent you any money in the first place. I was glad my "spidey sense" tingled and warned me to look up "Facebook Buyer Scams" before responding to these criminals!

  16. What is happening to November, indeed. I can’t believe that we’re halfway through. Is it too early to panic? Because I am! I check your blog every Tuesday to see what you’re accomplishing, because I’m not accomplishing a thing. You certainly have some great machinery. I would like to come play at your house sometime. 20. Yay! I can see this week to comment. I got totally sidetracked looking up the Janome. I've always loved Brothers. I see it on Amazon for just over $1,000. I would definitely be saving for a long time to have something like that!

    1. As it turns out, Ken's Sewing Center had them on special for 350 less than that, AND most of it was paid for by the sale of the Necchi - so it was a sweet deal!

  21. Since you are going back to a Janome, you already know that they are great machines. I do love mine for all my quilting needs- piecing, appliqué, quilting. But when I need to sew through thick layers, like the Sew Organized project I just made, I turn to my 22 yr old Bernina. It's a workhorse.
