My 2023 New Year's Eve Party!

Let's party!
Join me in my celebration of 2023 finished projects and my gratitude for the friendships I've made through your blogs! I'll start with a couple of finishes I failed to post. First is a chair re-cover. I was reminded of it when I read Wendy's post and spotted a familiar "cat" fabric in her Japanese rice bag. The second is a scarf I posted on Instagram. Read on for more details!

Craft chair - before
When my husband cleaned out his shed, he pulled out a bar stool that I used in a previous sewing room in another house. Katy the cat had imparted claw holes to the dark brown faux leather top, so I had a vintage doll quilt on top to hide the holes. When we moved, I no longer wanted the stool, so it went to live in the garage and finally ended up in the shed. I had forgotten all about it and was delighted to reclaim it for my "new" sewing space.

Craft chair - after. Rosie's tail is included for your viewing pleasure.
I removed the seat and covered it with a couple layers batting and cat fabric, then folded and tucked it somewhat like wrapping a gift. I secured it with staples, and screwed it back into place. It is handy and comfy when I am doing craft work at my cutting table and feel the need to sit.

This light linen is one I had long loved and hoarded,
from the Andover Maker Maker collection

The scarf was crocheted with a moss stitch using 2 skeins of I Love This Yarn in Painted Canyon, purchased back in 2016! It is soft and cozy.

For a review of all my finishes for 2023, feel free to click "2023" at the top of my blog.

It has been one year since I stopped hosting To Do Tuesday, my resignation made possible by Carol of Quilt Schmilt graciously volunteering to assume that weekly commitment. Since then I have not posted in the weekly linkup, preferring instead "To Do Whatever", and I have to say I am enjoying just posting occasionally rather than on a schedule. Also I have eased up on joining any quilt-along or stitch-along, although I'm not shutting the door on any of them.

In spite of my footloose state of mind, I still enjoy reading your blogs, and I cherish your inspiration, friendship, and kindness. You have no idea how your words and photos lift my spirits and light a fire under me, so thank you!

My wish is that your 2024 is filled with joy, peace, and good health!

  2. I love the "new" stool. But as I scrolled back up to have another look... Is there a raccoon in your sewing room? Ha ha ha ha (bottom left).

  3. Happy New Year, Linda! I love the recovered chair - the cat fabric is wonderful! It was fun looking at your 2023 tab, too - the heart quilt and the resulting HST quilt are my favorites. Wishing you a happy and creative New Year doing whatever brings you joy!

  4. That cat fabric is so cute, I love it! I also like that picture at the top of the page. Those women really knew how to party. Sometimes I miss the old days where everything seemed so much simpler. I wish you and yours the best for 2024. I think we need to hang on, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

  5. Love your stool cover and scarf, will be nice and warm for your winter weather. Yes can be a pain having to post on schedule. I find with my quilt blog I let it go unless I use the To Do Tuesday which I wasn't very faithful to in 2023, but hope to be a bit better in 2024. I pay for that blog to keep the ads of it so I should use it!! Happy New Year - happy sewing and wonderful books!

  6. I have some chairs that need to have the seats recovered. Even if I botched the job, they would look at lot better than they are. Those ladies know how to party!

  7. Oh, I like your little barstool covered with that cat fabric! So fun! The scarf has colors that definitely make me think of you. Like you, I've backed off of a lot of QALs and linkies. I'm trying to get back to a little of them (mostly the linkies), but I am enjoying just working on whatever. Happy New Year to you!

  8. Fun that you were inspired by Wendy's tea bag to cover your stool with the cat fabric. My posting comes and goes, and I never did the weekly to do party....I keep a list on my task app (tickTick) and that helps me stay focused. I post on my own schedule, except for hops and Tips and Tutes. Happy New Year!

  9. Your barstool looks great!! It seems the perfect fabric for a cover-up. And the scarf does look cosy. I find a loose schedule helps me (the one-a-day I did in Dec was intense but good!) or I can go far too long without a post - getting a good balance can be difficult! Happy crafting in 2024.

  10. Your stool redo turned out really cute. It's so easy to forget those side projects when you've got bigger projects going on. Wishing you a very successful 2024!

  11. I also LOVE that Maker Maker line of fabric. Not sure if you bought that cat fabric at my shop but it was a favorite. I have just some small scraps left. I kept any scraps I had of the whole line - I can't toss them! I also let go of making a schedule and sew as I please. I am going to do the SAHRR this year because it was so fun last year and is easy. So important for me - easy, easy, easy!!!

  13. I love how the silk stockings on the lady on the table just shine. I think hose is slowly becoming obsolete for the younger generation. I like the way you party, I'd rather stay and home and sew any day! The scarf is very pretty. My daughter made me a soft one and I love to wrap it around my neck and over my chin.
Hope you have a fabulous new year.

  16. I love that...footloose. We should all feel like that esp. at our ages. Whatever works for us and makes us feel less pressure and satisfied is where we all need to find our rest. Hope that makes sense! SO enjoyable to see more of lovely projects. You are such a great quilter! I like your scarf and have finding a variegated wool on my list to stitch a blanket. Just finishing off Amelia's crocheted one as I decided at the last minute to put an edging all round.

  18. Your stool looks so comfortable. You have a great variety of crafty finishes in 2023. I believe Kaleidoscope is my favorite. I, too, enjoy a "no schedule" posting to my blog and I must say that I always enjoy your comments on it.
